The real issue:
What all TV shows, movies, video games and social media content have in common is that they’re a substitute for a person’s own ability to create interest in the world around them. They furnish entertainment and absolve us of the “chore” of having to create our own experiences in order to escape boredom. They release us from needing to be interested in life because they give us perfectly packaged pieces of other people’s lives to be interested in.
So what do we do about it?
We explore.
We connect.
We play.
We discover.
We do all these things and more, and we do them in the real world. We spend time with real people.
